UAE motor sport to get new home
DUBAI: The Automobile and Touring Club for the UAE is to have a permanent new headquarters in Dubai to centralise its control of motor sport in the Emirates as well as its services for motoring tourists and travellers.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has allocated a 30,000 sq ft plot in the city’s Al Mumzar area for construction of purpose-built premises which will open late next year.

Honda unveils diesel system
TOKYO: Honda Motor said it had developed a new and simple diesel powertrain that is as clean as petrol cars, unveiling plans to mount it on a car for the US market by 2009.
Diesel engines, which now power half of Europe’s new cars, are slowly gaining traction with fuel-conscious consumers around the world since they typically get 30 per cent better mileage than petrol cars.

SLK-Class marks birthday
DUBAI: Cult car — the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class — has just celebrated its 10th birthday in the Middle East.
The compact roadster was one of the highlights of the first Mercedes-Benz product offensive and still stands as a symbol of the new dynamic brand image of the Stuttgart-based car-maker, said a spokesman for the German carmaker.

New BMW models in Saudi
JEDDAH: Mohammed Yousef Naghi Motors (MYNM), the exclusive dealer of BMW cars in Saudi Arabia, unveiled two variants of BMW Alpina B6 car — Coupe and Cabriolet — on the eve of signing an exclusive dealership agreement for Alpina cars, said a report.
“MYNM is proud to get the sole dealership for Alpina cars in the Kingdom,” general manager Musa Al Aruri was quoted as saying.
