Well, at long last, the final day of my ban on flying finally dawned and not leaving it too long we jetted off to Paradise Island on the lunch time flight and it was a great feeling as the plane left the ground as I was getting very, very bored playing Robinson Crusoe every day whilst marooned in Q-Land.
With the duty free shopping done and car hired we made our way down the highway to Jasra Palace where we are the guests of the Duke and Duchess for a week or so and arrived just in time for a quick sandwich and shower and then off to the Rugby Club for a few cold ones. It’s was a big weekend here with the Rugby 10’s tournament taking place with teams from all over the Gulf and from far flung places as the UK and Australia (who won). Friday was a huge fun day with “Er Indoors and myself meeting up with Andy and Fi-Fi at 12.30 for the weekend roast at the RFC and after letting that settle I watched a game or two of rugby whilst building up the thirst for the afternoon and evening. I am still amazed at the constitutions of some of the “veteran” players especially Ewen aka Fat George Clooney who I watched in wonder as he raced around the pitch with his face first turning pink, then five or six different shades of red. We also met up with Amanda and Laughing Boy and spent a few hours chatting and pouring a good few pints down our necks and I’m looking forward to having dinner with them on Thursday night so we can try and remember what we were talking about yesterday. Bumped into Mr Purvis (who was described in the RFC booklet as “Newcastle Nil”) at the bar and he’s obviously still enjoying himself here and also had a chat with Biggles who I last met on his weekend trip to Q-Land. I was planning to get into town before Ramadan to meet up with Dick, the Stripper and Pedro but it was called a day earlier than I expected but I’m sure there are few “get togethers” planned.
