The $6.8 billion Abu Dhabi airport expansion project is being showcased at a major expo this week.
The company behind the expansion is using a new aviation event taking place in the UAE capital to showcase its ambitious work to develop the emirate’s aviation infrastructure. Khalifa Al Mazrouei, chairman and managing director of the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), said the Aviation Procurement Expo (Apex) gives participants first-hand exposure to Abu Dhabi’s plans to become one of the world’s most sophisticated aviation gateways. The airport expansion scheme will allow passenger traffic to grow beyond 40 million per year from the current seven million, while cargo capacity will be boosted from 150,000 tonnes per year at present to two million tonnes. The project includes construction of a second runway, two new terminals, a state-of-the-art air traffic control complex and expansion of cargo facilities. Apex, organised by Streamline Marketing Group, ends today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and featured a major three-day conference focusing on procurement issues facing modern airlines. The Aviation Procurement and Finance Conference included speakers from airlines around the world as well as industry experts and consultants. The event also supported ADAC’s airport expansion scheme by gathering nearly 70 top aviation suppliers in an exhibition. Khalifa Al Mazrouei said: “The Abu Dhabi Airports Company is proud to take part in the Aviation Procurement Expo, Apex 2007. “It is indeed a good opportunity to showcase our plans to develop the Emirate’s aviation infrastructure and to interact with key players in the industry.
