Preparations are in full swing to start reclamation work for Bahrain’s new BD19 million state-of-the-art National Assembly.
Shura Council President Ali Saleh Al Saleh and parliament chairman Khalifa Al Dhahrani discussed the project with Works and Housing Ministry Fahmi Al Jowder. The landmark development, commissioned by His Majesty King Hamad, is expected to be completed in 2010. It will be constructed on a 10-hectare artificial island, on Shaikh Daij Highway off Marina Club coastline fountain. Designs have been inspired by Arab and Islamic architecture to epitomise the principles enshirined in Bahrain’s constitution. It will include three main halls, offices for MPs and committees, a hi-tech library, conference rooms, parking lot and research facilities.
