NO joke … the air was full of tension as three comedians sat in the Dilmun Club lounge and prepared for their long-awaited Laughter Factory Show to begin.
Long wait? It’s been 10 years since the Dubai-based entertainment agency had sent funny men across to water to entertain in Bahrain. The trio nervously voiced their concerns that the Dilmun members looked a little more mature than the Emerati crowd they were used to. One of them even suggested bursting into song rather than waste material on an unappreciative audience. But all concerns merely melted away as soon as mod maestro Ian Moore stepped on to the stage and targeted a “modern languages” teacher from St Christopher’s for a playful bit of banter. Although little Dave Johns appeared to struggle at times to keep the tempo going – and even burst into song twice – he still created more than a few chuckles of merriment. Addy van der Borgh rounded off the night with a nose for a risqué joke or two and a magical dance with a blonde wig. It was a fun night …let’s hope we don’t have to wait another decade for more mayhem and madness. Stan Szecowka
