As well as following the lives of the historically significant rich and powerful, it also follows the lives of two Roman soldiers that play their part in influencing history.
Rome is a gritty in-your-face drama that doesn’t spare the violence or your blushes but tells a fascinating story very well. The acting is superb and the sets and costumes plainly show why this is the most expensive series ever made.
It’s easy to see why the first episode of this second series pulled in some 1.5 million viewers.
