A pioneering scheme to educate villagers on how to deal with life-threatening situations could be extended across the country after it proved a big hit with participants.

The three-week event began earlier this month and focuses on first aid, fire fighting, diet, fitness and the psychological impact of catastrophes. Fifty-six people are taking part in the free programme, which is being run with the help of volunteers from the Bahrain Red Crescent Society, medical professionals from government hospitals and Alba. Half of them are women and they are participating in both theory and practical sessions, which have been taking place at the Alba Club and the General Directorate of Civil Defence Fire School, Riffa.
