Gulf Weekly Riffa on course for top design

Golfing legend Colin Montgomerie clinched his 31st European title recently when he won the Smurfit Kappa European Open at the well-known K Club in Ireland.

When not winning on the European Tour, Monty is also a much sought-after golf course designer whose most recent projects include the design of the forthcoming championship course at Riffa Views.
The design is a joint venture project between Colin Montgomerie Design and European Golf Design.
The man tasked with putting Monty’s design ideas down on paper is Robin Hiseman of European Golf Design.
He has worked closely with Monty on various projects in the past and has been responsible for coming up with a design for the course at Riffa Views based on Monty’s vast knowledge of all types of golf courses.
“The collaboration between Monty and Robin promises a bold, exciting and challenging course which is fast becoming a reality,” explained Michael Braidwood, the general manager of the existing Riffa Golf Club.
“Since signing the agreement last October, Robin has spent many hours walking the site and Monty is due to make a second site inspection in October or November of this year.”
Monty has been a professional golfer for 20 years and is the most prolific winner on the European Tour, having topped the Order of Merit an incredible eight times and winning more tournaments than any British golfer in history.
The Colin Montgomerie Design team has designed a number of famous courses around the world such as The Montgomerie Course at Celtic Manor in Wales and at Carton House in Ireland.
In addition to the new course at Riffa Views, Monty and Robin Hiseman are also working together on the Punta Perla project in the Dominican Republic.
Robin Hiseman has worked in the field of golf course design since 1991.
He joined European Golf Design in 2004 and designed the recently completed 18-hole course at Casa Serena in the Czech Republic.
He is an Associate of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects and is a published author on golf design.
