IS jail the new rehab? It used to be that when a celebrity went off the rails, their management discretely sent them off to a ‘retreat’ for a while claiming exhaustion, before bringing them back fit and healthy.
Then one day some clever little PR person decided it would be much better press to admit all was not well but that the celeb in question was entering rehab in order to get better. Suddenly rehab was all the rage and you were nobody if you hadn’t spent of few days at The Priory or whichever rehab happened to be flavour of the month. Now though, it seems that getting arrested is the ‘it’ thing to do. With Paris Hilton actually going to prison, Nicole Ritchie on her way and Lindsay Lohan possibly heading in that direction, it seems that the soft padded chairs and three-figure-a-day prices of rehab are out and orange jumpsuits and metal bars are in. The only question is who’s next? Mel Gibson, Nick Nolte, Anna Nicole Smith and Chris Kline are just some of the stars who have famously arrested for DUI, while Carmen Electra was booked for battery on her then husband, ex-NBA player Denis Rodman. Vince Vaughn was arrested for public violence and Mathew McConaughey and Yasmine Bleeth are just two of the many stars who have been mug-shotted after being found in possession of drugs. At this rate, up-and-coming stars are going to have to be sentenced to death row before they can consider themselves as having made it in Tinseltown.
