Ebrahim K Kanoo, the sole distributor of Toyota and Lexus in Bahrain, launched the newest model, the all new 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser, in an exclusive media briefing session attended by Toyota officials and Ebrahim K Kanoo management at the weekend.

“One Rule: Your Rules”; the campaign slogan sets the pace for the new SUV with its genuine 4WD off-road performance with the aim of breaking down the conventional concept of SUV’s.
“The All New 2008 FJ Cruiser is the newest Toyota model to be offered by Ebrahim K Kanoo and was designed under the development concept of Rugged & Freedom,” said Ayman Shehadeh, Toyota and Lexus brand manager.
“The focus was on the fusion of the functionality as a tool for both on-road and off-road enjoyment with a unique design not found in existing SUVs. As a result, new SUV value was achieved by a stylish exterior designed that conveys a fun-to-drive SUV image and by the interior with its spirit of innovation, high level functionality, and sporty feel” added Mr Ayman.
The FJ Cruiser combines a somehow nostalgic yet stylish exterior design that stimulates the youthful spirit of adventure and genuine 4WD off-road performance with a powerful engine.
With its capability to cruise around freely either on-road or off-road, this new SUV aims to “highlight with vividness and joy the lifestyle of the younger generation who are willing to embrace new concepts to express individuality”.
The FJ Cruiser is equipped with a V6 4.0-litre engine and 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission designed to generate 240 HP as well as optimised fuel economy. In addition, lightweight yet highly rigid body frames, tough suspension, and differential lock system were adopted to ensure off-road performance that leads the pack.
Moreover, it has the class top level safety performance and passenger protection systems such as the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) that ensures vehicle stability even on slippery roads and TRC (Traction Control)/A-TRAC (Active Traction Control) that enhances off-road performance on rough terrain.
In addition, passenger protection performance is achieved through the adoption of various types of airbags and seatbelts as well as a body structure that passes US-NCAP tests1, which is the strictest worldwide.
On the other hand, to capture the affection of the younger generation, a powerful, distinct form not found in existing SUVs was pursued.
This can be significantly revealed in the centre opening double door, the unique rear hinged door and the side steps.
The interior was designed with meticulous attention on convenience and functionality to ensure comfortable seating space for 5 passengers and to provide a light hearted driving atmosphere.
The flexible rear seat arrangements and various storage spaces are provided to pursue greater convenience.
In addition, an exclusive audio system with roof lining speakers was developed to create acoustic space with a shower of sound flowing from the ceiling.
Putting the ‘fun’ into functionality, the FJ Cruiser costing around BD13,000, is ideal for someone looking for a vehicle that can handle a daily drive as easily as it can climb through the most rigorous terrain, a company spokesman added.
