STORE WARS has erupted in Bahrain as a new hypermarket invader has landed to woo customers away from their regular supermarket.
After eight months of preparations the long-awaited Lulu Hypermarket has opened its doors to shoppers at the Dana Mall in Sanabis. Located close to shopping giant Geant the new store has already made plans to open three more outlets in the kingdom by the end of next year. Juzer T. Rupawala, pictured at the new premises, right, told GulfWeekly’s shopping expert Shilpa Chandran that the hypermarket was a “totally new and fresh design”. He added: “We are sure no-one else will be able to offer the variety and selection of products customers will find here.” As part of a major BD50 million investment in the kingdom, the group will open another hypermarket at East Riffa and has a shopping mall planned. The Lulu Hypermarket is part of the Abu Dhabi-based Emke Group which has an array of businesses across the region including UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, plus Indonesia, Thailand, China, Kenya, Tanzania and Benin and well as in India. The Lulu Supermarket chain is a household name all over the Middle East and the latest addition in Bahrain will be its 64th store. “We have always believed in the potential of Bahrain and we don’t consider the kingdom as a small market,” said Nandakumar Vijayan, the group’s communications manager. “Customers all over look for same thing,” he said, “quality products and competitive pricing and we don’t consider Bahrain any different. “The store will appeal to people from all nationalities as we have a huge range of products being imported from the UK and the rest of Europe, US, Far East and India.” The hypermarket also boasts its own range of products ranging from food and household items. “Our unique selling point has always been our loyal customers who fully endorse our simple philosophy of great products at the best price,” added Mr Vijayan. “Our hot food and ready to eat sections are going to be very welcome relief in today’s fast-paced life.” Future plans for the group include establishing outlets in neighbouring Saudi Arabia.
