• Renowned Bahraini artist Abbas Al Mousawi opens his painting exhibition today at the Beit Al Quran in Manama. The event will feature the launch of a book entitled Abbas Al Mousawi and the Colours of Bahrain written by Denis O’Dwyer, a 20-minute documentary by Yousef Al Zeera and an exhibition displaying photographs, calligraphy work and more than 30 pieces of a new collection of Islamic designs. • Adipoli Music Show - a four-hour feast of music and cultural fund-raising show is planned for October 13 at the Indian School in Isa Town. Organised by the Kerala Social and Cultural Association (KSCA), the show, directed by renowned Indian musical director K S Prasad, will have a 23-member troupe of artistes performing a variety of live music, mimicry skits, cinematic dances and Mappila Pattu traditional, devotional songs.  Performers include Kishore Varma, Devichandana, Amsil, Ashraf Payyannur, Aswathy, Samad, Nitya, Soumya and a host of others. • The American Women’s Association has announced its 29th annual fall Craft Fair, themed ‘Holiday Festival’, to be held on October 27 in the Palm Hall of the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). The Mercure Grand Seef Hotel is facilitating this event for the AWA.

 

• The fair will offer festive decorations that include hand painted ornaments, festive home décor, angels, wreaths and candle pots, painted glass, porcelain items, original paintings, charity greeting cards, prints, homemade pastries, silk paintings, clothes, toys and more. The AWA Bake Shoppe will provide with cakes and sweets.

• A musical night – ‘Music Mela’, will be held on November 1 at the Gulf Air Club in Salmabad. The event will showcase the performances of Asian rock band - Roxen, DJ HHH (Triple H) from India and an Indian dance group - Rangla Punjab Bhangra Group. DJ HHH is one of the youngest DJs from Bollywood and has played with renowned artists like Bally Sagoo, Dj Doll, Atif Aslam, Roxen, and Himesh Reshammiya. The Bhangra group will perform a cultural dance and a Live Dhool Performance, much appreciated in the Asian community. Leading Pakistani rock band Roxen will feature Mustafa, Jawad and Omar. • One of the world’s favourite DJs is coming back to Bahrain on November 15. German Trance and techno DJ Paul Van Dyk will perform at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

 

The Grammy-nominated artist and globally acclaimed DJ and producer continues to appear in the electronic music charts especially so with his latest album - In Between. PVD, as his fans have nicknamed him, is currently ranked the world's number one in DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs poll for the second consecutive year and his new album features collaborations with David Byrne and Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls.

 

Some of his famous remixes include Depeche Mode's Martyr and Justin Timberlake's What Goes Around. V

• The Kerala Catholic Association (KCA) in association with the Soorya - Bahrain chapter is set to stage the Rhythm Nite 2007 on November 30 at the Indian School in Isa Town and will take place on November 30 from 7.30pm.

 

Directed by Soorya Krishnamoorthy, the show will feature contemporary Indian dance and drama theatre troupe – Samudra and seven member music group – Trisakthi. Also performing are playback singers Gayathri, Manoj, Sayanora along with Bharathanatyam performance by Mythili Prakash. Trisakthi group is a seven-member team led by the legendary percussionist Mattannur Sankaran Kutty.

 

Accompanied by MS Lavanya on saxophone, Attukal Balasubramanium on violin, Jijith on keyboards, Karunamurthy on the tavil, Sasi on the Western drums and Mahesh on the mridangam, the Trisakthi group will be playing a fusion of North and South Indian musical styles coupled with Western styles.

 

 The Samudra troupe includes Madhu Gopinath and Vakkom Sajeev, whose main dancers, choreographers and leading figures in the contemporary Indian dance theatre of the Samudra Dance Research Centre in Kerala, India. • Rakrakan Overload: The 2007 Middle East Tour - a Filipino rock concert tour is heading to the region. The tour will kick start with Bamboo and Kitchie Nadal opening the tour at the Khalifa Tennis Stadium in Doha, Qatar on October 19.

 

The event reaches Bahrain on November 9 at the Marina Beach Club in Manama featuring Parokya ni Edgar and Kamikazee.

 

The tour will have its grand finale in Dubai on December 7 with the three rock band idols who will emerge as the most voted in the “Rakrakan Overload Text Promo in Dubai”.
