Do not hurt your siblings

WE all go through endless fights with our families over the silliest things, especially with our own siblings.

I have argued many times with my twin brother and my younger sister. We have fought over every single thing; the TV, the laptop, the PlayStation, you name it, we have fought over it!

Many would suggest that fighting and arguing with brothers and sisters is a bad thing.

That may be the case but surely it is far worse to bottle up all your emotions and never say a word when the occasion calls for it.

We all say things that we do not mean, and that’s perfectly normal, but at the end of the day our sisters and brothers are the people that we, as youngsters, turn to first to help with personal issues and problems.

I recall, when hearing the sad news of my mum’s death, that the first person that I reached out for was my sister for comfort.

It was surprising to me since we do not spend much time together and we fight over the silliest of things, but, as an elder sibling, I had to reach out to her.

Earlier last month, in Youth Talk I highlighted the connection that families nowadays need to make in order to retain the “happiness factor” to survive in this hectic world, and how important it is for siblings to connect.

My personal advice to any youngster reading this column is simple:  It’s OK to fight, however, do not hurt your brothers or sisters intentionally. At the end of the day, they are all we have.
