INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the deaths of two female US navy sailors who were shot dead by a male colleague at the American naval base in Juffair on Monday morning.
The gunman sustained serious wounds and was taken to hospital in a critical condition. It is not known if his injuries were self-inflicted.
The shootings took place in the on-base barracks at 5am. The two women, believed to be teenagers, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Sources say the incident was a “domestic situation.”
The base, home to 3,000 US personnel, was temporarily closed after the incident and reopened shortly after 6am.
At the time of going to press the names of the sailors were being withheld by the authorities.
