Recently, a good friend of the Whisperer decided to order a chocolate birthday cake for a young friend.
Now we all know our 5-star hotels are famous for their yummy confections, so she called up a leading Bahrain hotel to order the present.
The polite hotel worker repeated the order, thanked her and confirmed it would be ready the next afternoon.
Five minutes later she called her back. "Madam, I am sorry but the Chef can't make your cake."
What terrible calamity had stuck to prevent them from making it ... flu epidemic hits kitchen staff? Hotel has no electricity /gas? Staff on strike? Someone died necessitating the hotel to close for mourning? NO! "Chef doesn't have enough chocolate to make your cake."
Now I have heard everything. It sounds like this hotel has been taking management lessons from British Rail...what next? No custard for the tart, no apple for the pie?
I have a new advertising slogan for this hotel: "We bake chocolate cakes to order.....BYOC." For the unenlightened amongst you - Bring Your Own Chocolate.Chocoholics beware, your next fix could be further away than you realise!
