Bahrain's first public access driving range will officially be opened on Saturday at the Bahrain Golf Club in Riffa. The Henainiya Range, which has been donated by Arcapita Bank, will be opened under the patronage of Bahrain Golf Club president Shaikh Abdulla bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The facility is the first step in the establishment of a golf academy, which will be set up to develop the game of golf in Bahrain.

"Arcapita is very pleased to have been able to support the construction of this new driving range which is part of an ongoing community initiative to develop the sport of golf in Bahrain," said Arcapita chief executive Atif Abdulmalik.

"Arcapita have formed a committee with Bahrain International Golf Course Company (BIGCC) and Riffa Views to co-operate in developing golf amongst the youth of Bahrain. The opening of the Henainiya Range is the first important step towards achieving that goal."

"BIGCC is committed to making golf practice facilities more accessible to people of all nationalities and economic backgrounds," explained Michael Braidwood. "Our aim is to encourage young people, particularly Bahrainis, to take up this wonderful sport and we look forward to seeing them enjoying the fantastic new amenities at Bahrain Golf Club."

The Henainiya driving range will be open seven days a week and boasts 24 shaded bays as well as floodlights to allow golfers to practice well into the evening. Practice facilities are further complemented by a grass putting green from which players can practice their pitching and putting.

Following the opening ceremony, dignitaries and guests will be treated to a golf trick-shot show presented by world champion Geoff Swain and his partner, Kevin Carpenter. The British pair, who have performed twice before in Bahrain, will carry out dazzling golf stunts as well as divulging top tips, humorous anecdotes and impressions from the world of golf and beyond. All are invited to attend the show which will begin at 4.15pm on Saturday.
