Gulf Weekly GPIC marks anniversary

THE Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company held a ceremony to mark its 28th anniversary last Wednesday at Al Ghazal Ballroom, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel under the patronage of Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, advisor to the Prime Minister on Industry and Oil Affairs and GPIC chairman.

The event was opened after a speech by general manager Abdul Rahman Jawahery, who welcomed the guests and conveyed to them the best wishes of Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa and expressed gratitude for the achievements of the company in all fields and the unique position enjoyed by the company as it was an embodiment of the spirit of co-operation among the GCC states.

He expressed his thanks and appreciation to Nasser bin Ahmed Al Sayyari, former deputy chairman for his outstanding efforts during his membership of the company's board for more than 21 years during which the company made significant achievements. He also thanked former managing director Dr Mohamed bin Abdul Rahman Al Terkait for his commendable efforts during his membership of the board for more than 12 years during which the company made significant strides and realized many international achievements.

Mr Jawahery noted that 2007 was a year of many challenges and achievements and the next few years would be a period of hope and challenges. With the same determination and team spirit, the company will be able to maintain its achievements and realise new ones, he added.

He also spoke about the key projects being implemented by the company. He said the ERP System was introduced on August 1 last year within a record period of seven months only from the start of implementation. A new SAP system was used in the overall maintenance operations during this year and for the purchasing, financial affairs and other activities related to the company's operations.

He praised the initiative of the board for the carrying out of a Carbon Dioxide Recovery project to increase methanol production at the rate of 120 tons daily and urea at the rate of 80 tons per day.

Later, deputy chairman Anwar Saeed bin Salama, and managing director Yousuf bin Abdul Rahman Al Zamil, along with Mr Jawahery presented commemorative plaques to Mr Al Sayyari, Dr Al Terkait and former board member Abdul Aziz Al Rawaf, in recognition of their sincere and significant efforts during their term of board membership.

During the event, board secretary Fawzi Ahmed Al Jaber was honoured for reaching the age of retirement following more than 19 years of service. Other employees honoured included those who completed 25 years, 20 years, 15 years, 10 years and 5 years of continuous service in the company. Also honoured were the best and hard working employees as well as the best department in 2007.
