Scores of students are signing up for the Scrabble workshop on February 22 at Yateem Centre after youngsters as young as six turned up at league meetings to try out the popular "brain sport".
Over 30 students, aged 14-8, at Pakistan Urdu School have registered says Ayesha Maqbool, in charge of activities at the school.
Students from the English-language unit of l'Ecole francaise are also prepared to learn the basics about the brainy game while a teacher at Kanoo School aims to identify "serious students" who could benefit from the workshop, which is from 3pm-5.30 pm.
An official of the Sri Lanka Club intends to send its members from the club's youth Scrabble wing to the workshop and Bahrain Scrabble League member' children are also taking part.
Teenage scrabble sensation Mohammed Zafar, from Manama, is also an inspiration to young players and is now regarded as one of the best players in the Gulf.
Mohammed, 18, started playing four years ago as a student of the Pakistan Urdu School in Isa Town and aims to become a banker.
Children should bring their Scrabble sets with them to the workshop, if they have one. There is no registration fee. The Bahrain Scrabble League holds these events on a regular basis for keen youngsters. Top exponents of the game in the BSL will lead the discussions on the art of playing and helping with the games.
Nearly 40 private schools have been invited to send students to the workshop for what pedagogues' term "a smart game" in helping youngsters develop their analytical prowess as well as linguistic skills. Government schools are being contacted through the General Organisation for Youth and Sports.
