Always look on the bright side of life. Well, first and foremost, I would like to apologise to readers for the absence of the Youth Talk column in last week's edition of GulfWeekly.
Let me explain. Regular readers may recall that last week was the time my classmates and I were due to head off on a science trip to Kritou Terra in Cyprus.
Everything was going according to plan. Our flight schedules were fine - we had to simply take a transit through Kuwait on the way to Cyprus - but guess what? Our flight from Kuwait to Cyprus was cancelled and we were stuck in Kuwait for more than 50 hours.
I tried to send in my column by email but the internet connection in Kuwait was so bad and there was no connection at all in the village in Cyprus where I was staying.
I think many young people in my shoes would have cracked. Well, I did, just ask anyone about the number of times I lost my cool and let my emotions show!
True, there were so many mishaps in Cyprus but I learned a valuable lesson - no matter how bad things get there is a positive side to every situation. It is just up to the person to figure it out.
During our stay we had to wake up at the crack of dawn and hike every day. I had to share a two-bedroom apartment with five boys - there were times when you couldn't sleep due to the loud snoring.
There were also times when there was no hot water and most of us had to make do with freezing cold water for washing. But no matter how bad the situation at hand was, I always had my friends to back me up and my faith in God as well.
The memories of our adventures will live with me forever and when I look back I'm sure I will be surprised at how much the brighter side shines!
