Banyan Tree appoints new executive chef

Josef Umenberger has been appointed executive chef of Banyan Tree Desert Spa and Resort, Al Areen.

An Austrian national, Chef Umenberger joined the resort from Royal Hayat Hospital Kuwait, where he held the position of executive chef.

As part of the pre-opening team for Royal Hayat Hospital Kuwait, which is one of the properties managed by Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, he has successfully been involved in the set up and implementation of the standards and policies for the Culinary Division.

Chef Umenberger started his career in hospitality industry back in Austria, following which he relocated and gained valuable experience in the Bahamas, the US, Germany, Mexico, Azerbaijan, Venezuela, UAE, Philippines and Kuwait.

Prior to joining Banyan Tree, Mr Umenberger worked in several five-star hotel groups such as JW Marriott, Hyatt and Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

In his new role, the executive chef will be in charge of the overall operation and administration of the culinary team at Banyan Tree Desert Spa and Resort, Al Areen.

With over 26 years experience as a chef, of which he spent over five years as executive chef, he has acquired extensive knowledge and skills to competently lead the kitchen team and further contribute to the success of the resort.
