So did everyone have a good time at the Riffa Views Bahrain International Garden Show last week? I certainly did.

Weren't there were some great exhibits, amazing garden ideas, flowers, plants and landscaping ideas?

I had a good chat to world-renowned landscape gardener Chris Beardshaw on my Midday Madness radio show; he told me all about the different gardens he's worked on and about how he started gardening at four years of age by putting a few seeds on some wet blotting paper and watching them grow into Cress.

His fascination with gardening grew and grew and he even went on to university to continue horticultural studies.

For me there was a message in that: We parents have a responsibility to show our children the wonders of Mother Nature.

Even in a country like Bahrain that is lacking in rainforests and such, with a few cress seeds we can demonstrate some of this magic within our own homes.

And you know, if we don't make the effort to explain how amazing nature is when our children are very small; it is something they can never really appreciate when they grow up.

Believe me, it's true, you can't appreciate what you just don't know.

Think about all the litter louts out there. I really believe if they had just been taught how to appreciate and see nature's beauty, they would not be able to toss their plastic bags and cola cans out of car windows.

Speaking of kids in Bahrain, earlier in the week I was invited to meet some great young girls. I said a big 'hello' to all the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and their leaders at St. Christopher's Cathedral on their special "Thinking Day".

The day was about thinking about people from different countries, and whilst there I witnessed some wonderful Scottish dancing and a brilliant Mexican hat dance (which you can check out on Channel 55's Music Mania next week).

With all this activity there, of course, had to be food too. As well as Janet's lovely cakes there was a chocolate fountain (which sadly had been switched off by the time we had finished filming).

I had some great chats to everyone and even did a fun 60 second interview with Jan Wheeler who is the district commissioner of guiding in Bahrain (whilst she was busy painting the faces of a line of girls). It was great fun, but with her strong Geordie accent we might need subtitles!

My diary during last week was definitely varied; on Friday afternoon I was compere at Tabasco Charlie's for the 'Clash of the Titans' organised by Jeffrey Mancau, the entertainment manager. 'The clash' consisted of four bands from different Bahrain venues. First up was a great four-piece Bahraini group called 'The Concrete Band'. They rocked the place with covers of top songs from bands like 'Pantera' and also played some of their own compositions.

Next up was 'Circa 5' from Diggers at the Delmon Hotel. They continued with rock and performed a great version of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.

Then came 'Black Dyke' from Cyclone who started off rocking before moving into some 'slowies' like 'All by myself'. I was agonising trying to remember the name of the lead singer till my mate Carl Jamison (who I affectionately call the 'encyclopaedia of useless information') came up with the answer; 'Eric Carmen'!

Last up were Kaktooz (who I had worked with previously at the Battle of the Bands) and wow - they blew me and all the audience away with some great musicianship. The lead guitarist Jephta (who I later found out had played with the Black Eyed Peas) came up with some incredible ways to play a guitar, including backwards, lying on the floor, with his feet, and, for the grand finale ... he set light to it and played Jimi Hendix's Purple Haze as it burned. An unbelievable finish to a great afternoon's entertainment!

They say that "variety is the spice of life" and this week was many flavoured. On Saturday I worked at Naseem International School Carnival. There was plenty of fun including pony rides and a bouncy castle and of course great music.

I took loads of requests and went to bed on Saturday night with the sound of 'Soulja Boy" ringing in my ears (I must've played it four times as it was the most requested tune of the afternoon).

It kinda felt like revenge from all the parents who used to moan about me playing it for the kids in the mornings. What goes around comes around as they say ... and it's been going round and round my head for days now. Aargh!!

All my love,

Krazy Kevin
