Scott Wilson Group has been appointed by Durrat Al Bahrain to develop the master plan for a golf precinct as part of a $6 billion island city development in Bahrain.

The golf course and surrounding precinct is a key element of Durrat Al Bahrain, the kingdom's largest planned luxury residential, commercial and tourist resort development.

In addition to the 18-hole course, designed by world renowned golfer Ernie Els, the plan will include a luxury hotel and residential villas, a club house and a health and wellness centre. The course, set to become one of the region's leading golfing destinations, will be surrounded by waterways, canals and landscaped greenery.

An island city development, the Durrat Al Bahrain is set across 15 inter-connected islands off the southern Bahraini sea and when completed in 2010 will be the size of Manama, Bahrain's capital city.

It is expected that there will be more than 60,000 permanent residents as well as some 4500 visitors a day.

Eddie Foster, Scott Wilson Director for the Middle East said: "Scott Wilson is very happy to be appointed by Durrat Al Bahrain to develop the masterplan for this luxury golf precinct. We look forward to working together and contributing to this prestigious development".

Jassim Al Jowder, CEO of Durrat Al Bahrain, said: "Durrat Al Bahrain's golf precinct is much more than a golfing experience. It will offer a world class course designed by one of the very best golfers, Ernie Els, and it will also offer a luxuriant and exclusive lifestyle for those looking for space and peace.

"Residents will be able to live within the green landscaping of the golf course and be surrounded by the tranquillity of the course's waterways and canals.

"We believe Scott Wilson is the company to help us realise this dream and we look forward to working with them in developing the master plan."
