Business has been brisk at Bahrain's first public driving range since it was opened in December last year.
The Hunainiya Range, which was donated to the kingdom by Arcapita Bank and opened under the patronage of Bahrain Golf Club president Shaikh Abdulla Bin Salman Al Khalifa, has been proving extremely popular with Bahraini nationals and expats alike.
Staff from the former Riffa Golf Club are currently managing the facility until their own club reopens this autumn under the new name of the Royal Golf Club. The driving range is open on a pay-and-play basis from 7am to 9pm at weekends and from 8am to 9pm from Sundays to Wednesdays.
"We have been very pleased with the response from the public to the opening of the new range," said Colin Ferguson, the golf services manager for the Royal Golf Club and a PGA professional.
"We have already conducted one full course of junior tuition at Bahrain Golf Club during the winter months and have a new follow-up programme for the youngsters set to begin on April 12. There will also be a ladies improver programme starting here on April 16."
Ladies and juniors wishing to take up the sport for the first time are invited to sign up with the Royal Golf Club's head PGA professional Chris Kelby.
The two professionals will be conducting a special junior development programme for beginners from April 12 at the scenic venue of the Ritz Carlton Bahrain, Hotel & Spa, as well as a ladies eight-week beginner programme from April 15. Chris can be reached on email c.kelby@theroyalgolfclub.com or on 39797633.
