QUEENS Park Rangers put on a great show in their first match of the season on Saturday, beating Barnsley two to one.

Within five minutes of the game, Iain Hume silenced QPR fans by putting Barnsely ahead. The hoops then retaliated hitting back with two goals from Fitz Hall in no time which brought the fans to their feet, roaring with excitement.

First, Barnsley keeper Luke Steele parried Emmanuel Ledesma's free-kick into Hall's path and he bundled the ball home at the second attempt after his first effort came back off the bar.

Then, after Barnsley failed to clear a Lee Cook corner, the ball dropped to Hall and the centre-back brilliantly hooked it back over his shoulder and into the far corner of the net.

Barnsley never really looked like they were equalising and the best they could muster in the second half was a tamely-struck free-kick from Bobby Hassell, whose effort was easily saved by Cerny.

Top brass from the the team's new sponsor, Bahrain's national airline, Gulf Air, travelled to England for the match and during half-time, one lucky spectator got a chance to win a free trip to Bahrain just for attending the first match of the season. A random draw took place and the winner received two return tickets in economy class on a Gulf Air flight from London to Bahrain and three nights' accommodation at a leading five star hotel.

The winner, Mike Frey, is a season ticket holder in the family stand from Harrow, Middlesex, who also received free entrance to Bahrain's premier water park, The Lost Paradise of Dilmun.
