Bahrain debut for Axis of Evil

MORE than 2,000 fans are expected to attend a Bahrain debut performance by the Axis of Evil Comedy Tour in October. The two-day run will take place on the second and third days of Eid at Al Ahli Club, Zinj.

Comedians Ahmed Ahmed and Maz Jobrani, who are of Middle Eastern heritage, will headline the event organised by Bahrain-based SJ Media Group. The three-hour shows will also feature performances by local comedy artists, acts from around the Middle East and a live band. The Axis of Evil tour has performed across the US in addition to sell out shows in Dubai, Kuwait and Jordan.

Ticket prices, show timings and other information will be announced closer to the event.

Bahrain's creative society Elham is ready to launch its third season at the Albareh Gallery beginning September 23.

The schedule consists of a screening of digital artworks by graphic designer, artist, photographer, writer and DJ Fawaz Alolaiwat, who will also be performing.

Fawaz is a visual-communications graduate from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, USA, and believes in 'nu-digital age' to express his experiences, dreams, hopes and imaginings creatively.

Writer Yacoub Salman Al-Slaise will conduct a reading. He began his writing life aged 10 when he penned his first detective story - 'The adventures of Inspector Yak: in search of the missing Shampoodle'. Alongside training teachers, he blogs and writes short stories about 'the little things in daily Bahraini life that nobody notices'.

This will be followed by a screening of a short movie 'Woken Shell', shot by former Indian School student Vijesh Rajan in a Manama office block.

Musician Ali Milad will do a solo performance on the bass... influenced by funk, rock, indie and post-rock music.

Elham's upcoming session takes place at 8.30pm at Albareh Gallery in Adliya; the gallery cafŽ will be open from 6pm for Iftar.

The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) is set to celebrate 10 days of the Indian harvest festival, Onam from September 2.

Chief guest at the event will be Trivandrum Soorya Stage and Film Society founder, Soorya Krishna Moothri.

The event will have a traditional 'Onam pookkalam' (floral decoration) contest on September 5 with cash prizes and trophies for the winners.

All India People National Theatre for Folklore and Jananaya Arts and Cultural Theatre members Prem Prasad and Praseedha Kumari will be flown in from Thrissur, Kerala to lead and organise.

Cultural programmes will take place over the course of the event organised by Indian group All India People National Theatre for Folklore and Jananaya Arts and Cultural Theatre.

The Onasadhya - Onam grand feast will be held on September 19 for which a chef will be specially flown in from Kerala, India.
