The completion of the new Colin Montgomerie-designed championship golf course in Bahrain will be marked next month with a star-studded Riffa Views invitational event.

The three-day festival of golf, running from November 13-15, will bring together some of the world's top golfers with other iconic stars from the sporting world.

Eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner Montgomerie will be joined from the pro-golfer ranks by South African two-time US Open Champion winner Retief Goosen, another previous US Open Champion winner, Michael Campbell, from New Zealand, and relative newcomer to the upper levels of world golf and winner of two recent back-to-back PGA Tour events, Colombian star Camilo Villegas.

Also travelling to the kingdom for the celebrations and to recognise Bahrain's developments on the world's sporting stage will be five-time Olympic rowing gold medalist, Sir Steve Redgrave, tennis great and one of Riffa Views Signature Estates' Sporting Ambassadors, Boris Becker; and India's cricket World Cup winning captain, Kapil Dev - all renowned sportsmen and great ambassadors for sport in general.

The Riffa Views golf facilities, comprising the 18-hole Montgomerie Championship course and a nine hole Executive Par 3 course (also designed by Monty), will showcase events throughout the three days.

All the stars will take part in Pro-Am competitions on both the 18 hole and nine hole courses with club members and VIPs.

The final event will then see the four professional golfers going head-to-head over the Montgomerie course in The Riffa Views Invitational, as they compete for over $250,000 (BD94,262) prize money, all of which will be donated to the winners' nominated charities.

Richard Browning, CEO of Riffa Views, said: "In a project as large as Riffa Views Signature Estates, it is important to recognise and celebrate key milestones and The Riffa Views Invitational is the perfect way to celebrate the completion of this magnificent course and to showcase the world-class facilities and properties of Riffa Views.

"We are thrilled at the enthusiasm of the golfers and the calibre of celebrities attending and we are looking forward to a fabulous weekend of golf. Bahrain has everything in place to stage a world class event and I am sure this will be the first of many international golfing events to be held at Riffa Views."

A selected audience will also have the opportunity to question any and all of the sporting stars in a special 'Sporting Q & A Session' that will take place at the newly-opened Riffa Views International School.

As well as hopefully showing their prowess on the golf course, the sporting celebrities will be making their own contribution to marking Bahrain's sporting achievements and development.

Sir Steve Redgrave will be comparing notes on 'that gold medal feeling' with Rashid Ramzi, who became Bahrain's first-ever Gold Medal Olympian when he won the 1,500m at the recent Olympic Games in Beijing, Boris Becker, on his fourth visit to the island, will be continuing to champion the cause of tennis development for Bahrain's youth and engaging the local community in his role as one of Riffa Views Signature Estate's Sporting Ambassadors; whilst, Kapil Dev, revered by Indian cricket fans the world over, will be casting his eye over some of the island's young cricketers and no doubt making many new friends as he visits one or two of the Indian communities and schools in Bahrain.

The Montgomerie golf course will officially open at the start of next year, when it will be handed over to The Royal Golf Club at Riffa Views. It will soon take its place amongst the world's finest golf courses and will be open to members, guests and all residents of Riffa Views Signature Estates.

The event is being staged in conjunction with IMG, the world's largest sports marketing company.
