Diyar Al Muharraq, one of the biggest mixed-use residential urban developments ever undertaken by the private sector in Bahrain, was in the limelight as the gold sponsor of Property Arabia 2008.

The unique BD1.2 billion ($3.2 billion) development - set to house over 100,000 people on completion in around 30,000 dwellings - was showcased by an impressive six by six-metre scale model showing in detail the comprehensive elements of the 12-square-kilometre self-contained city which adjoins the northern coast of Muharraq island.

It includes over 40 kilometres of publicly accessible waterfront together with expansive beaches and many public facilities such as a mall, parks and other open spaces, walkways, a marina and hotels.

Diyar Al Muharraq CEO Aaref Hejres said: "Property Arabia was a prime forum for Diyar Al Muharraq, and we were proud to be this year's gold sponsor. Being a Bahraini company and one of Bahrain's largest ever developments, it is extremely important for us to exhibit in our home market.

"This ever expanding exhibition plays a key role in promoting Bahrain to the GCC and wider Middle East, and even international markets, attracting investors and members of the public who will be able to appreciate the many facets of the Diyar Al Muharraq.

"I believe that the masterplan for our self-contained city of the future is challenging perceptions of how a development should be designed, built and used. Diyar Al Muharraq is set to change the face of the Bahrain's real estate landscape, both in physical and social terms, as it will offer housing and job opportunities for all segments of society."
