Dear Stan, The American Women's Association, in conjunction with the Salmaniya Medical Complex Central Blood Bank, is sponsoring a blood drive as part of the November Thanksgiving General Meeting on November 17 at the Golden Tulip Hotel.

The AWA is issuing a challenge to all women's organisations to join them in their effort to give back to this wonderful community and to show our gratitude for the many blessings we enjoy by giving the gift of life.

Blood-related diseases, such as sickle cell, are very prevalent in Bahrain, and the AWA wants to help. It only takes about 10-13 minutes to donate, and you receive a donor ID card, free blood typing, free blood screening at the time of donation and every six months as a follow up if desired.

So women's groups, unite! The AWA challenges you to organise a blood drive within your group today. Together, we can make a difference.

Dear Stan,

I must say how much I enjoy reading GulfWeekly each Wednesday - it seems to have become much edgier and your journalists are tackling issues the other papers appear to be frightened to report, for example, the Riffa Views delays and the parking issues at Bahrain City Centre. Keep up the good work.

Richard Johnson, Saar

Dear Stan,

I hope you enjoyed the golf lessons as much as we have enjoyed reading about them over the past few weeks. Here are a couple of apt sayings to remember when you venture out on the course.

'Golf is an awkward set of bodily contortions designed to produce a graceful result'.

And another one on the subject of your final lesson: 'I'm hitting the woods just great, but I'm having a terrible time getting out of them.'

Chris Kelby,

Royal Golf Club
