Following five successful years with over 15,000 vehicles being delivered and 47 international awards being received, the creator of the 'sport luxury sedan segment' is now even better.
With a new look, enhanced engineering and an all new engine the new Maserati Quattroporte S was unveiled in the kingdom at a ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel & Spa.
With the unmistakable and skilful touch of Pininfarina, the new BD65,000 Maserati Quattroporte S has now been honed even further, displaying a fresher, more modern design that still maintains the class, exclusivity and elegance of Maserati.
The new Maserati Quattroporte comes with a V8 4.2 litre engine producing 400 bhp whilst the new Maserati Quattroporte S features a V8 4.7 litre engine producing a breathtaking 440 bhp which combined with its 6-speed, ZF, automatic transmission, delivers the very best both in terms of performance and driving experience.
The outstanding torsional rigidity of the new Quattroporte's bodyshell leads to superb handling and the highest possible levels of safety. A highly sophisticated anti-dive and anti-squat suspension system, with front and rear wishbones, enhances the car's stability and safety by preventing the front end from diving during heavy braking and the rear end from pitching down under hard acceleration.
Recent improvements to the suspension system of the 4.2 litre Quattroporte provide extra comfort and ensure an even smoother ride. Whilst Maserati's highly acclaimed Skyhook active suspension is available as an optional extra on the Maserati Quattroporte it is a standard feature with the new 4.7 Quattroporte S. The Skyhook system automatically controls the damping and allows the driver to alter the suspension's behaviour, new valve and damper settings have led to the optimisation of the car's responsiveness and road holding capabilities.
Furthermore, the new Maserati Quattroporte S has a high performance braking system, which uses the very latest dual-cast front brake discs. Developed in collaboration with Brembo, the dual-cast disc consists of a cast iron friction (or braking) ring and an aluminum hub - thus combining cast iron superior braking performance at high temperatures with the light weight of aluminum.
The major aesthetic changes have been made to the most distinctive features: the front of the car, with its striking new grille and vertical slats - an obvious extension of its GranTurismo heritage. The front and rear light clusters have also received enhancements and now feature LEDs. The side view mirrors are also new, with a more aerodynamic shape fitting seamlessly into the doors.
The interior features a new centre console which has been ergonomically enhanced. The range of navigation systems has also been enhanced with the introduction of the New Maserati Multimedia System and two new leathers have been introduced for the first time on the Quattroporte S; Marrone Corniola and Sabbia.
For the past five years Maserati has been working on environmental plans which will allow for the reduction of CO2 emissions and reductions in fuel consumption; the figures for the recent models already show more than 20 per cent overall reduction (NEDC combined cycle).
On the Quattroporte S with its 4.7 engine, exhaust/evap emissions and fuel consumption have been aligned with future Euro 5 regulations for Europe and LEV2 standards for the USA, partly thanks to the adoption of an innovative metallic matrix catalyser with perforated sheets (Turbulent PE Catalyst), which is both permeable and reliable but does not affect performance.
Maserati also uses environmentally-friendly, easily recyclable materials made from natural substances, especially for parts of the interior, which are most in contact with the driver and passengers (natural textile fibres, wood and leather).
Maserati cars are mindful of the "design for recycling" concept, which is centred on making cars easy to dismantle at the end of their working lives, so that materials can be identified and separated for re-use.
