Renowned pianist Anthony Williams will perform at St Christopher School's third subscription concert at its Concert Hall in Saar.

Anthony received many major prizes whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Music with Alexander Kelly. He then went on to further his interest in teaching at Reading University before launching his career as an international soloist and chamber musician. The advent of family life encouraged Anthony to become more home based and so rather than spend a life travelling abroad to play, he became far more involved in teaching. He now spends his time teaching both privately and as Head of Instrumental Music at Radley College and performing and examining for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for whom he is also a very senior moderator.

Anthony will be performing a piece by Jonathan Harvey called Tombeau de Messian, Tombeau de Couperin by Ravel and the entire Op 10 by Chopin.

Bahrain Scrabble League is hosting a tournament to appeal to players of all skill levels. The four-round topsy-turvy begins at 1.30 pm with cash prizes of BD10, BD15 and BD25.

WMC Toastmasters will host a short film festival Cinergy 2008 at the Gulf Air Club, in Salmabad.

Twenty-three entries out of 500 participants have been selected to showcase their short films following the award ceremony from 8pm.

From 4pm to 7pm, 10 nominated films will be screened for the public.

The Jury is led by Bahrain filmmaker Bassam Al Thawadi along with Khalifa Shaheen, well-known as father of cinematography in Bahrain, Hameed Karimi president of the Bahrain Cinema Club and Rick Beeman, Hollywood actor and director.

The Children's House in Budaiya is hosting two short films produced with the help of students of the in-house drama and film workshops from 6pm to 8pm. The evening will feature the premiere screening of 'Putting on a Play' and 'The Low Show'. The former is a diary of a theatre workshop that was held at the venue in the summer of 2004. The documentary exposes the behind the scenes mayhem from the conception and rehearsal to the final performance. The Low Show is a reality show with a mix of suspense, thrills and mystery. Fresh to the island, Casa dell'Arte art gallery in Zinj is exhibiting the works of four Bahrain-based artists ending today. It will feature pottery by Bahraini artist Haifa Al Musawi, oil and acrylic paintings by Italian Federica Piraino, positively paper art by Indian Arthur Dsouza and acrylic paintings by German Rafael Schink. Studio Ceramics in Budaiya is holding a-four-part ceramic workshop for women called 'Desperate Housewives.' Today is part two where participants will paint 'chips and dips' dishes. On January 26 participants can create their own interior dŽcor pieces such as cone or tapered vases. The workshop ends on February 2 with coastal cottages. The Alliance Francaise Bahrain in Isa Town will be screening French movie De battre mon coeur s'est arrtŽ, starring acclaimed French actor Romain Duris with Neils Arestrup at 7.30pm. The movie is directed by Jacques Audiard and is an hour and 47 minutes long. The story is about 28-year-old Tom who leads a criminal life. In doing so, he follows in the footsteps of his father, who made his money from dirty, and sometimes brutal, real estate deals. Tom is a hard-boiled guy but also strangely considerate as far as his father is concerned. At one point, he encounters a chance to become a concert pianist like his mother and senses that this might be his final opportunity to get his life back.

The movie will have English subtitles. Entry is free.
