FORMER Hollywood      director Rick Beeman has been appointed to a senior role at one of Bahrain’s leading photographic studios and plans to launch a         professional screen camera acting school for all ages.

Khalifa Shaheen, founder of KSDI and long-established Falcon Cinefoto, announced today that Mr Beeman has been appointed as general manager of the company.

He will lead KSDI as it expands into the ever-growing video marketplace and use ‘Hollywood techniques’ to help develop acting talent in the kingdom.

Mr Beeman said: “We are also trying to build up a data base of talent so that when we start producing films in two-three years we’ll be able to draw upon local talent first.”

Children, teenagers and adults will be taught the art and nuances of screen acting. “Having taught actors in Hollywood and all over the world for over 15 years, this is a real passion of mine, and I want to give people in Bahrain the opportunity to learn the craft,” he explained. “Learning to act is not only fun but it also builds self-confidence and can be extremely therapeutic.”

The award-winning filmmaker worked in Hollywood for 10 years writing, producing and directing various film and television works such as biographies on Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Eva Peron and  Charlton Heston alongside numerous other documentary projects, which have aired all over the world.

In recent years Mr Beeman has been focused on international corporate production with extended works in Buenos Aires, Taipei, Houston, San Francisco, New York, Hollywood and, most recently, Saudi Arabia where he worked with Saudi Aramco producing corporate materials and recruitment tools.

For nearly 45 years Mr Shaheen has been at the forefront of media production in Bahrain and throughout the Middle East.

Being the regional leader in digital photography, and most renowned in Bahrain for wedding videos, Mr Shaheen saw a unique opportunity to utilise Mr Beeman’s experience to grow this area of the business.

He said: “Rick has produced film and video all over the world of the highest quality and video production in Bahrain in general will benefit from the global experience and standards that he brings.”

Mr Beeman added: “I am looking forward to the challenge of working in a new marketplace and to the opportunity to bring some of the tools I learned in Hollywood to the Middle East. The Arab world is often misconceived in the West, and video production is a unique forum to change this perception for the better.”
