Dear Stan, I would just like to let people know of the recent situation I found myself in following a car accident in Saar.

I was pulling out of a junction and behind me a young Bahraini driver decided I was not going fast enough so proceeded to flash me to intimidate me. As this failed, even though we were on a no overtaking road he decided to overtake.

Unfortunately he misjudged and went into the side of me.

The police were called and upon arrival took down details. I was not given the opportunity to have a look at the report they had written but I declined to sign the report as I did not agree that the accident was my fault.

As advised I took photos to show the position of the cars, distance from junction at point of impact, damage to the car etc.

On arrival at the traffic office the next day (with an Arabic speaker) the report made out by the police had shown the accident to be in a completely different position. I even took in two of my son's toy cars to demonstrate how the accident could not be as per the police report.

Despite the police report not matching the damage to the cars (if their report was correct the damage to the other driver's car was on the wrong side!), I was told that the accident was my fault and if I wanted to appeal my only option was to go to court which would take in excess of a year.

So lone female, non-Arabic speaking drivers, please if at all possible call someone who can assist you at the scene by speaking Arabic and if not possible insist on seeing the drawing on the report detailing the accident spot! Even if you can not read Arabic you will be able to question a drawing.

Dan Vickery.

Dear Stan,

I read Betsy's interview in GulfWeekly with Shaikh Nasser - it brought a tear to my eye, such a moving piece.

I used to live in Bahrain and like to keep up to date with what's happening through the online edition.

I miss Bahrain and am looking forward to a visit next month.

Wendy Furness,

by email.

Dear Stan,

Just to say THANKYOU for a fantastic write-up. It gave us a great start to the week. Events are really going well and I sit here with face paint on as I type! We hope to be in contact with you to share all the exciting learning experiences we have at Bayan.

Sally Evans,

The Bayan Bahrain, School, primary principal.
