Comedy of errors

Once again, Steve Martin has succeeded in making people laugh.

In all his previous movies, whether they were a huge hits or not, this actor always managed to bring a smile on our faces which is something we really need after a stressful day at work or in the house.

I went to see Pink Panther 2, which is the sequel to Pink Panther (2006), with my husband and some friends, and I could hear them and the other members of the audience laughing during most of the scenes.

In this movie 'The Tornado' steals some of the world's precious treasures and Inspector Clouseau (Steve Martin) is chosen to join an international 'dream team' of detectives to capture the burglar and bring back the stolen items.

The treasures are the Pink Panther diamond, the Shroud of Turin, the Magna Carta, the Japanese imperial sword and the Pope's ring.

The team includes investigators from Italy (Andy Garcia), England (Alfred Molina) and Japan (Yuki Matsuzaki). Bollywood actress (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) joins the team too as an expert on the Tornado's past crimes.

Clouseau gets himself into embarrassing situations while trying to solve the case, putting himself and his team in a very sensitive position with the public and the media.

At the same time the French inspector has another war to fight. While he is madly in love with his assistant Nicole (Emily Mortimer), although he is not showing it, (Garcia) is using his charm and sneaky games to get to the girl.

It is so nice to see this great star, Garcia, who has done many amazing serious movies in the past, taking on a comedy role.

However, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, no matter how pretty and glamorous she looks, has failed once again when it came to acting skills. To me she appeared plastic; there were no real expressions on her face.

Jean Reno (Ponton), Clouseau's faithful assistant and Nicole, his love interest, starred in the original movie, however, Chief Inspector Dreyfus, played by John Cleese, has replaced Kevin Kline.

Lily Tomlin portrays an etiquette coach charged with the difficult task of ridding Clouseau of his na•ve sexual harassment problem.

A scene when the two discuss whether Clouseau snuck a peek at a blonde bending over to pick up some papers which was hilarious.

Another funny part was when Clouseau interrogated the Pope and speculated that perhaps he did the job himself for the insurance money.

In this movie the inspector never fails to embarrass himself again and again.

In a flashback scene where he is in a diner with his smitten assistant, a ceiling-high wine cabinet begins tipping and as bottles virtually leap out of their slots, Clouseau begins a juggling-pin routine that quickly involves all the waiters, the maitre d' and some of the customers.

If you are depressed, in a bad mood, bored or just looking for some fun, go and see this movie, it is worth your time and money.
