Hitting the ball low, and slow

We get a lot of wind here in Bahrain so you have to know how to hit the golf ball low. First you need to understand what makes the ball go up in the air.

Club head speed + loft = height

The more loft there is, the higher the ball will fly.

The more club head speed you have the more spin you create on the ball.

The more spin you create the higher the ball flight will be and especially hitting into wind the ball flight will balloon upwards.

So, you need to reduce your club head speed. This means, instead of hitting a 5-iron, you might take out a 4-iron and hit it easier. If you choke down on the club just a little bit, this shortens your swing, which lowers your club head speed and knocks down the ball flight.

When hitting into wind most golfers try and hit the ball harder, which will actually make the ball fly higher! With a slower swing you're going to hit a lower shot. Think of two words during your back swing, 'Low' and 'Slow'.

You also need a slight adjustment in your set-up. Put the ball further back in your stance towards your back foot. Try to concentrate on having a lower finish through the shot. And the swing thought is to hit the back of the ball with the back of your left hand. The more you do this the lower the shot.
