Coping with stress of examinations

The exams are only weeks away and I thought I might share some tips and guidelines about surviving them.

To be frank, it's nothing major to worry about, except if you're a senior high school student and have your whole future depending on how you answer the questions laid out by the powers that be!

However, if one worries too much about it, then the exams are bound to be a difficult experience to handle.

Therefore take the advice I am about to provide and you might be able to learn a thing or two (I hope!). First of all, I am completely against last minute studying the night before (or even five minutes before actually picking up the pen to write the exam!).

Therefore start now by studying and revising the materials provided by your course instructors. The night before the exam should be a three to four hour recap of what you already know.

Another thing I would strongly advise is that pulling all-nighters does not actually work at all; the only thing that it does is make you tired and sleepy for your 10am morning session exam. I recommend having a good sleep of six or seven hours since you will then wake up refreshed instead of feeling like hitting the exam invigilators three hours later!

Another thing I always do before sitting an exam is to have a nutrition-filled breakfast. I know I sound more like a parent right now, but having something to eat before an exam really does help. The worst feeling one can have is solving an algebraic math problem while your stomach is growling from hunger (not to mention the constant evil stares from the kid sitting next to you!). Finally, the most important advice out of all: do not dare talk or even think about the exam you just sat once you're out of the exam hall. There is no use worrying about it and checking your text materials if you got the answer right or wrong; there is no turning back to write the correct answer!

So, I hope you guys enjoyed the academic year of 2008-2009 as much as I did, but in my case I had to since I'll be graduating soon! Till next time then...
