A US adaptation of the BBC series about a 21st century detective who is mysteriously transported back to the 1970s. Where were you in 1973? NYPD Detective Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) finds himself in the cultural hotbed of New York City in the tumultuous times of the Vietnam War, Watergate, women's liberation and the civil and gay rights movements suddenly hurtled back in time when he's ripped from 2008 after being hit by a car while chasing down a criminal. He's trying mightily to understand what has just happened to him and how he can get back "home."
THURSDAY (June 4)
New Series - The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency on America Plus at 10pm.
Like the novels, the series chronicles the adventures of Precious Ramotswe (Jill Scott), the cheerful, eminently sensible proprietor of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, located in the rural Botswanan village of Gaborone. Aided by her efficient yet high-strung secretary Grace Makutsi (Anika Noni Rose), Precious investigates a variety of cases, helping townspeople solve "mysteries" in their lives, from missing children to philandering husbands to con-artist scams.
FRIDAY (June 5)
Film - Garfield Gets Real on Star Movies at 8.30pm.
In this animated feature, Garfield, the lazy, mischievous cat, is less than satisfied with the 2-D constraints of the cartoon world. Luckily, Odie the dog happens to open the portal that separates the cartoon world from the real one, and Garfield sees the perfect opportunity. Jumping through, Garfield finds himself in the real world - only to find out how much he misses things back home. Now Garfield must find a way back into the comfort zone of his cartoon home, before the newspaper discontinues his comic strip for good.
SATURDAY (June 6)
Film - Casanova on Star Movies at 8.30pm.
Casanova is loosely based upon the notoriously unreliable memoirs of writer, adventurer, and infamous lover Giacomo Casanova. Abandoned by his mother as a child, Casanova (Heath Ledger) has grown into a lascivious yet oddly innocent young man, who pursues pleasure wholeheartedly and mistakes lust for love. His biggest concern is eluding Italy's puritanical inquisitors, until he meets Francesca Bruni (Miller), a beauty who publishes clever pamphlets on women's rights under a pseudonym. In time-honoured tradition, Casanova is instantly smitten with the one woman in Venice who doesn't want anything to do with him.
SUNDAY (June 7)
Film - Star Wars Episode III : Revenge of the Sith on Fox Movies at 11pm.
When the sinister Sith unveil a thousand-year-old plot to rule the galaxy, the Republic crumbles and from its ashes rises the evil Galactic Empire. Jedi hero Anakin Skywalker is seduced by the dark side of the Force to become the Emperor's new apprentice - Darth Vader. The Jedi are decimated, as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Master Yoda are forced into hiding.
MONDAY (June 8)
Film - Cool Runnings on Star Movies at 8.30pm.
Cool Runnings fictionalises the true story of the first bobsledding team from Jamaica making it to the Olympics. When Derice Bannock (Leon) realises his chances of qualifying for Jamaica's 1988 Olympic track team are dashed due to an injury, he scrounges around looking for another sport to compete in. Since ex-US gold medal bobsledding winner Irv Blitzer (John Candy) now lives in Jamaica, Derice chooses bobsledding, convincing Irv to coach the team. Derice forms a team with his friends with many setbacks and heads off to the Olympics.
TUESDAY (June 9)
New Season - Miami Ink on Discovery Travel & Living at 10pm.
South Beach's most talented tattooists are back and up to their old tricks as the infamous tattoo parlour opens its doors for a third series. The shop's doing better than ever. Kat and the shop have parted ways, but the guys haven't missed a beat and the search is on for the perfect replacement and Tasi Lyn, Miss D'Jo and Virginia are the first to test the water. These tattoo artists are rebels at heart, chasing fun and adventure.
