Bahrain and the US raised the flag of hope for peace in the Middle East.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Iraq topped the agenda as President Barack Obama and Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa met for official talks at the White House.

President Obama praised the reforms spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad, which he said had earned the kingdom international respect.

He also praised Bahrain's stand on regional issues, including the peace process, security and stability in Iraq and the war on terrorism.

President Obama stressed the strong ties between Bahrain and the US and backed moves to further strengthen them.

Shaikh Salman also met US Vice-President Joe Biden and praised President Obama's new Mideast peace push. Talks also focused on the situation in Iraq. Shaikh Salman underlined Bahrain's support to the Iraqi government in its bid to restore stability to the country.

Both sides affirmed that the election turmoil in Iran was an internal affair and hoped for rapid solutions.

Speaking at the end of the two-day visit, Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa hailed it as one of the most successful in the history of both countries.
