Vibrant and elegant

UK fashion favourite Miss Selfridge has come to the island with the opening of its first Bahrain store in City Centre mall.

Models strutted their stuff on the red carpet showing off the store's wares as a DJ played vintage vibes to match the 80s inspired spring/summer collection.

Influences this season come from the likes of Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan, Debbie Harry and Bananarama.

Bleached, distressed and marble washed denims are teamed with batwing tops and rolled cap sleeves.

And there are plenty of dresses with a striking colour palette in jade, purple, hot pink and electric blue as well as the ever present blacks and greys.

Sexy cowl back detailing meets voluminous tops and dresses with cinched waists and oh-so-80s peplums.

There are bows, ruffles and graphic prints for a look that is both individual and playful and essentially feminine.

Playsuits with stud detailing and dresses adorned with zips offer that almost-punk edge offset with jewel bright biker jackets in jade green and electric blue suede.

The fashion team at Miss Selfridge is led by creative director Yasmin Yusuf who has overseen this year's spring/summer collection and which has been sourced from vintage pieces gathered by buyers the world over.

And the store is brought to Bahrain by Kuwait-based MH Alshaya, which is also responsible for other international brands such as Topshop and Dorothy Perkins operating more than 1,700 internationally branded stores across 15 countries.

Country manager Taner Seyis said: "We have only had the brand for three months and so far we have stores in Kuwait and Dubai but this is the first one in Bahrain.

"We have a number of fashion brands including Top Shop and Wallis operating here in Bahrain and this completes the set.

"We are looking at opening another two Miss Selfridge stores by the end of the year and the negotiations for those sites are going ahead at the moment."

Pat Kelly, business director of Miss Selfridge at Alshaya, said: "We are thrilled to introduce the Miss Selfridge brand to our growing portfolio of young fashion brands in Bahrain.

"It is a young, vibrant and elegant fashion brand that perfectly suits the glamorous style that is so important to young, fashion conscious women."
