University College of Bahrain (UCB) has signed an agreement to enter into a student exchange programme with Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST).

The Business School at HKUST is ranked by the UK's Financial Times as the leading institute in Asia and also as having the world's No.1 Executive MBA. UCB is the only institution in the Gulf with which HKUST has entered into such a collaborative agreement.

The agreement, signed by Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, the president of UCB and Professor Paul Ching-Wu CHU, the president of HKUST came to fruition following a series of top level discussions.

Dr Al Khalifa also made a visit to Hong Kong, accompanied by UCB's Academic Dean, Professor Keith White-Hunt to meet Professor Kar Yan Tam, University Dean of Undergraduate Education and director of international programmes at HKUST.

A UCB spokesman said: "Students at UCB will now have the unique opportunity to undertake part of their studies at this impressive and highly prestigious institution.

"In mentioning Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, it is interesting to note it is known in China as the 'Rolls-Royce University'. While being in existence for less than 20 years, HKUST has achieved outstanding success and international recognition as a leading world university."

UCB also recently celebrated news that after review and consideration by the board of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE), its application for institutional membership has now been approved.

UCB is the only university in Bahrain to have been granted membership, which is currently only held by three other Arab institutions of higher education.

Dr Al Khalifa said that UCB will continue to actively pursue membership of leading international accreditated bodies and also seek strategic alliances with high-profile overseas partners in its continuing commitment to quality enhancement.
