A dedicated few hardcore fans half filled the seats of Seef II at midnight for the the eagerly anticipated big screen adoptation of the iconic GI Joe.
The film is set in the near future, US army soldiers Duke (Tatum) and Ripcord (Wayans) are on a mission to courier "nanomite" filled missiles to NATO, when they're ambushed by mysterious villains armed with advanced weaponry.
One of them just so happens to be Duke's ex girlfriend Ana (Miller). When she's seemingly about to take the nanomites and put the final boot to Duke he's saved by mysterious good guys who have even more futuristic, hi-tech weaponry.
The guys who saved the day are the Alpha team of GI Joe, a secret international force formed to fight crime and generally save the world from disater.
The team is formed of the toughest, most highly-skilled soldiers including Snake-eyes (Ray Park), a martial arts expert who took a vow of silence after his master was murdered, so now he lets his sword do the talking.
The team also features Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), a massively built, no nonsense type of bloke who takes delight in "training" the newly recruited Duke and Ripchord by subjecting them to an onslaught of grueling physical tests and challanges.
For me Wayans makes this movie special, his perfect comedic timing makes mundane situations and cliche phrases hilariously funny.
The special effects in this movie are really amazing and a chase through Paris featuring Duke and Ripchord in "accelerator suits" running after a speeding car is a personal favourite scene of mine.
There is a good twist at the end in regard to the identity of the evil scientist ... true shock value along the same lines as Star Wars, but that's all I'm saying.
This movie has everything, deception, loveloss, betrayal and explosions ... lots and lots of explosions!
