ACE coach Tareq Sabt - who is training world champions Maryam Yusuf Jamal and Youssef Saad Kamel - today told how the dynamic duo have the motivation and mental strength to bring even greater glory to Bahrain.

And he urged Bahrain national football team to follow in their footsteps to victory and urged the players to believe in themselves as they prepare for a crucial World Cup play-off clash against arch-rivals Saudi Arabia this weekend.

Mighty Maryam stormed to victory in the women's 1,500 metres at the Weltklasse Zurich athletics meeting in Switzerland - just a week after her title-winning performance at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

Tareq, who is also Maryam's husband and manager, said: "She has been doing great and although she felt a little tired after running three races in Berlin she was really up for the Swiss challenge.

"Maryam is on fire and is running another 1,500m race this Sunday in Italy - her next grand prix race, and then will prepare for the finals on September 12 in Greece."

He added that shortly afterwards both Maryam and 1,500m star Kamel will return to the kingdom to celebrate with everyone and to dedicate their recent medals to His Majesty King Hamad, described as their 'biggest supporter' and the people of Bahrain.

"The reason why Maryam is doing so well this year is simply down to experience, in my opinion," explained Tareq. "She was quite young when she started racing internationally in 2005 and now that she is 24 I believe it is her time.

"In the past 12 months she progressed very well and has the ability to continue running at the highest level until she is 28.

"In the 1,500 category you need to be very experienced and with every passing year she has gained the necessary knowledge. I expect even more wins for her next year.

"Maryam is even more motivated to defend her world title. As you know, to win the world championship isn't easy but she feels more confident in her mind and more capable.

"The next step is to win the Gold Medal in the London Olympic 2012 - that's our biggest goal.

"She has won two world titles and inshallah the Gold in Doha (2010 world indoor athletics championships) but London is what we are really aiming for.

"We also have big plans for the Asian Games in China which is also a very important race for all of us representing Bahrain.

"We would like to thank all the Bahraini people who have been supporting us throughout the season. We had received many calls and messages congratulating us and we appreciate that.

"For now we would like to wish the Bahrain national football team the best of luck in their game against Saudi Arabia.

"We are winning in athletics so it's the footballers turn now! We are confident that they will win and they must put it in their minds that they will."
