Scream for more in Sorority Row

Imagine if you will, a slasher film along the lines of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer ... add some scantly clad young women having a pillow fight and presto, you have Sorority Row!

The film focuses on five stuck-up sorority girls who hatch an ingenious plot to exact revenge against a guy that cheats on one of them.

It seems sound in theory, but when the prank goes wrong and the girl actually dies, a whole can of worms is opened up and leads to gory consequences.

They agree to keep the incident to themselves and never speak of it again, so they can get on with their lives - just like all good friends would!

However, just as they begin to put the accident behind them (by having wild, crazy college parties) and preparing for their up-coming graduation, disaster strikes. After graduation a mysterious hooded killer (a la Scream) goes after the five of them and anyone who knows their dirty little secret.

Of course, as soon as a tyre-iron wielding killer goes on a bloody rampage, the big question becomes who is killing these girls, and why?

In the classic mystery killer tradition, the film throws a dozen red herrings at us and actually does a pretty good job of keeping that particular ball in the air. Is it the victim's sister? The accidental murderer? The shy sorority chick who winds up cracking under pressure?

Is it prissy head of the sorority wiping out anyone who knows the secret to please her potential father-in-law? Or, is it the dead girl herself, back from the grave to exact justified revenge?

My personal favourite thing about this movie is the appearance by Carrie Fisher (Princess Leah) who plays a protective headmistress who would do anything for the well-being of her girls. She plays the part well, giving the film slightly more depth than it would otherwise have.

Sadly, the film doesn't really achieve anything new in terms of the genre, but credit where it's due, there are some genuinely suspenseful moments that will surely make you jump.
