Award show trackers say Docter has reason to be hopeful because Up, about an old man and a boy who float off to South America in a house tied to helium balloons, has earned wide acclaim from fans and critics, alike.
It has earned $507 million at worldwide box offices since its relaese in May, and is one of the year's best-reviewed films scoring a 98 per cent positive rating at review website rottentomatoes.com.
Beauty and the Beast is the only animated movie ever nominated for best picture in more than 80 years since the Academy began distributing the honours.
