Wednesday (Nov 18) The Lions Club of Bahrain will celebrate its 31st charter night at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Manama. The programme starts at 8pm and Health Minister Dr Faisal Al Hamer will be the chief guest.

Thursday (Nov 19)

The CinŽ-Club of Alliance Franaise de Bahre•n will feature the movie Les Fautes d'orthographe at the Maison Jamsheer in Muharraq at 7.30pm. The movie is directed by Jean-Jacques Zilbermann and written by Philippe Lasry and Jean-Jacques Zilbermann. The story is about a student Daniel Massu of a school where his father is the headmaster and mother is head supervisor. For details, contact 17683295.

Gill Goode, Rosemay Brown and Betty Nieman will be hosting an open house at House 436, Awali from 2.30pm-6.30pm and tomorrow from 10am-2pm. Gill will showcase her latest watercolour paintings and a selection of prints, as well as Skal Charity greeting cards for Eid or the festive season, gift wrap and novelty Bahrain maps. Betty has a new collection of hand-painted Christmas ornaments for sale and Rosemary has silver and fashion jewellery and handicraft accessories from Thailand.

Proceeds from the sale of the Skal Charity greeting cards will benefit needy families in Bahrain.

The Yahoo Health Club at the Middle East Hotel, Manama, is holding karate classes for children on Saturdays and Thursdays from 4.30pm-6pm. To promote the importance of first aid skills and encourage more people in the community to learn first aid St Christopher's School will be hosting a series of first aid courses at their premises in Saar. The courses include Child Care Emergency Aid today, December 5 and 12 from 9am-12.30pm as well as on Tuesday, December 2 and 9 from 6pm-9.30pm, Emergency Aid on December 6 and 13 from 6pm-9.30 pm. Each course is BD25 and includes manual and certificate.

Fashion, music and confessions will take centre stage during Elham's third monthly event entitled 'Elham21: Secrets Revealed' at the Qal'at Al Bahrain Site Museum, Seef district, from 7.30pm-9.30pm. The event will feature the works of young Bahraini fashion stylist Noor Al Shaikh, the creator of the 'I Heart Vintage' store. Noor collects vintage pieces of fashion from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s and creates unique outfits from them. She will showcase some of these and tell the stories of these pieces, how she found them as well as their origins. Bahraini guitarist Ali Malik, 22, who is a member of the heavy metal band Re-alive, will perform a selection of acoustic songs and musical compositions.

The Albareh Art Gallery in Adliya presents a solo exhibition of Bahraini artist Jamal Abdul Rahim titled 'Al Mawaqif' from today until December 6.

He will showcase two art books - 'Al Mawaqif' originally written by Al Niffari and revisited by the artist and 'Mawqefi wal Mawaqif' - a second book inspired from the first. The books include 10 graphic art works each printed by the artist on 300gm arch paper, in addition to 10 Arabic calligraphy works extracted from the original book of 'Al Mawaqif' and written by the Bahraini calligrapher Abdul Ellah Al Arab.

Mr Rahim is one of Bahrain's highly-regarded contemporary artists. For details, contact 17717707.
