Bahrain's Mitsubishi dealers, Zayani Motors, participated in the 4th Mitsubishi Motors GCC Conference in Dubai.

Present at the event were Statuary Auditor of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC)- Yukio Okamoto, general manager of Middle East & Africa FZE, Dubai, Atsuki Tofukuji, president of Middle East & Africa FZE, Dubai, and Katsuya Onoda and representatives of Mitsubishi dealerships across the GCC.

President of MMC, Japan Osamu Masuko spoke about the recent business development plans, financial status and global and regional strategies to be adapted in enhancing Mitsubishi sales.

"Mr Masuko's visit reinforces the importance of our ever growing automobile markets to the global resurgence of Mitsubishi Motors," said Nawaf Al Zayani, managing director of Zayani Motors, at the event.

Despite current market scenarios, MMC recorded sales of 445,000 units and net sales of 573 billion yen for the first half of the year.

"Thanks to the tremendous efforts and strong support from all our distributors here, we are now back on track to return to previous operational levels," said Mr Masuko.

Mr Masuko also announced the establishment of Mitsubishi Motors Middle East and Africa FZE in Dubai that will handle and support marketing, after-sales, parts supply and R&D in the MENA region.

Speaking on the future plans Mr Masuko said: "Mitsubishi Motors is committed to developing environmentally friendly vehicles that combine ingenious design and high-efficiency technology to bring savings to the environment and reduce running costs.

"The automobile industry has entered a stage where it is time to change to more environmentally friendly-customer choices and this has commenced with the introduction of our latest 'zero-emission' technology vehicle i-MiEV which will be launched early next year."

Keeping in mind the customers' requirements and changing buying patterns worldwide, Mr Masuko also discussed plans of introducing a new line-up to the current Pajero, Pajero Sport and Lancer EX by 2011.

Mr Masuko has been a Mitsubishi veteran for over 35 years and from January 2005 took over as Mitsubishi's president and chief operating officer; the man responsible for taking Mitsubishi back on track on its successful path to profitability.
