Shelby SuperCars (SSC), an American company and the creator of the Ultimate Aero, has announced plans to develop its first electric production supercar - the Ultimate Aero EV, following the launch of its revolutionary All-Electric Scalable Powertrain (AESP).

The company revealed that it will incorporate its AESP into the '2010 Ultimate Aero', which it has deemed the perfect high visibility outlet to demonstrate the capabilities of its new 'green' powertrain. SSC's exclusive distributor Ultimate Motors, one of the leading distributors of exotic and luxury sports cars in the GCC, is confident that the new electric supercar will be met with significant interest in the Middle East amidst growing calls for environmental awareness in the region.

SSC is expecting to roll out its first full-scale, pre-production Ultimate Aero EV in 2010 with a view towards pursuing the title of 'World's Fastest Production Electric Car'. According to a company statement, the Ultimate Aero EV is set to prove that electric-powered vehicles not only match but also provide more linear power (electric motors have 100 per cent torque at 0rpm) and overall performance than internal combustion cars.

Likely to utilise a twin motor AESP, the Ultimate Aero EV is expected to produce an astounding 1,000bhp and 800lb-ft of torque, which will enable it to sprint from rest to 100km/h in a mere 2.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 334km/h.

The supercar will also have a three-speed automatic transmission, which can achieve electronically controlled shift times of 0.24 seconds by transferring the power to the supercar's wheels.
