I was interested to hear that the Arabian Taxi Company has now launched five new pink coloured 'London cabs' driven only by women with the purpose of providing a special service for females only or families.
What a great idea! Especially in this part of the world where women can be very wary about getting into a car with a man they don't know.
It's not just from the safety point of view since the same can really be said of any part of the world but more from a religious or traditional point of view where women are not supposed to be around men who are not family members.
To start a service that will allow these women to get around without needing to rely on other people's time-tables makes very good sense. And, if it all works out well, we will soon see their pink fleet increase to meet demand.
Another aspect of the Arabian Taxi Company which is great for Bahraini women is that they are currently looking to employ another 200 females to drive their taxis, giving women, who might not have the necessary university qualifications to find a job, the opportunity to still make money to help support their families.
And, of course, there are women who would prefer the freedom of driving around meeting new people rather than be stuck in an office.
