Dear Stan, REGARDING Isa Town Gate Interchange Project (last week's GulfWeekly pages 1, 15, 16 & 17).
I take this initiative to express my concerns which are shared by my fellow colleagues employed by Sungwon Corporation (SWC) for the Isa Town Gate Interchange Project.
We are well aware now that SWC is no longer the main contractor for the above mentioned project. However, the decision has direct consequences on us.
We are currently puzzled about our status of employment.
Are we still employed by SWC? If we are, will SWC pay our February salary and the subsequent months as usual until the day we receive notice of termination of our employment?
SWC settled our November 2009 salary on February 16 but we are still owed three months salary.
Some of the expatriates, including myself, are now faced with the problem of expired resident permits. I handed over my passport a few months before the expiry date for renewal purposes but, unfortunately, until now SWC is still keeping it without any further action.
Apart from illegally overstaying, we also have no other option in terms of sponsorship to renew the permits owing to the fact that SWC's contact on this project has been terminated.
We have been put in the very difficult situation where we cannot leave the kingdom, due to the prolonged overdue salary issue and unavailability of the promised air tickets as per our contracts of employment.
We are worried that if this situation continues to persist we will be caught in an extremely risky position.
We would like to seek the authorities' kind attention and counsel on how to resolve this situation in an appropriate manner before some of our members proceed with undesirable action.

Dear Stan,
IN reference to the Whisperer's column in last week's GulfWeekly regarding the Lord Mayor of London.
The event he ran was the t'azur full marathon and marathon relay and not the Triathlon. The triathlon is going to be held on March 5.
I met the Lord Mayor of London and had a chat with him, a very nice and pleasant gentleman.
He appreciated the well-organised event and thoroughly enjoyed the race. He said that since he was raised in Cyprus, he enjoyed this kind of weather and he also said that he would be joining us again whenever he visited Bahrain in the future.

Dear Stan,
I TOTALLY agree with Mr Onions' letter in last week's GulfWeekly about the kingdom's latest attraction.
Yes, give the National Action Charter Edifice an easier name and get it opened to all the tourists who will be flocking to this island soon.
Bahrain says it wants tourism, well do something about it!
