TRADITION, culture and ghawa (Arabic coffee) are brought back to life in the ever-so-popular 3-D animated series Fereej.

Created by UAE national Mohammed Saeed Harib; Freej is the Middle East's first 3-D animation in which four elderly Arab women living in a secluded neighbourhood in the modern day Gulf discuss the trials and tribulations of society over cups of ghawa.

Harib, the 32-year-old who majored in general arts and animation at North Eastern University in Boston, said: "They are super heroes, not only Arab women but senior Arab women. On top of that, these are grandmothers with very important messages and beliefs on the empowerment and equality of women. Families used to be more segregated but this show has brought them together and now families discuss certain issues that normally would be considered taboo."

Watch out for Fereej 'season four' as some new twists and thrills will add spice to the series.
