First Motors unveiled the new Hyundai Sonata and Tucson at a launch event at its showroom in Ma'ameer.

The company says the models are themed along a new design direction called 'Fluidic Sculpture' which it believes will score with customers as the brand gains worldwide exposure as part of its official sponsorship deal and association with the forthcoming World Cup football tournament in South Africa.

Zayed R Al Zayani, managing director of First Motors, said: "Hyundai is the fastest growing automobile brand in Bahrain and around the world. The new Hyundai models are perfect examples of Hyundai's commitment to innovation and superior quality in offering unmatched ownership experience to the buyers."

The sixth-generation Sonata boasts state-of-art technology and promises an exceptional driving experience, the makers say.

It will be equipped with a fuel efficient Theta II engine plus a new feature called 'ECO' coach will also promote fuel-saving driving habits.

Sonata uses MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension systems for improved wheel control and a smoother ride. It is built with 'ultra high-strength steel' while featuring six standard airbags.

Raed Mu'ti, general manager of First Motors, said: "Hyundai Sonata has been a best-seller ever since the first generation model was launched in 1985.

"The sixth generation Sonata continues Hyundai's legacy in designing cars focused on the owners' lifestyle and preferences. Built-quality has been given paramount importance without compromising on the interior comfort and exterior appeal."

The Tucson sports a sweeping, gently curved hexagonal grille. Aerodynamic tweaks include the addition of a rear spoiler which aids fuel efficiency.

Designers have carved out extra legroom and headroom as well as a new dual-panel panoramic sunroof with UV blocking.

The car will feature Hyundai's newest fuel-efficient engines and a six-speed automatic transaxle helps the company meet its goals of improving fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions.

Other new features include push button start with smart-key proximity sensor, foot parking brake, steering wheel-mounted audio remote control and 18-inch wheels.

First Motors' service facility in Sitra is fully equipped with diagnostic computers and machinery to ensure the highest standards of service excellence, the company adds, along with its highly trained auto technicians.

Hyundai has moved up three places in the 2009 Best 100 Global Brands survey by BusinessWeek/Interbrand.

Hyundai now stands at number 69 in global brands rankings and at number eight among the automobile brands.

Officials believe the launch of the two models will further strengthen Hyundai's market position and a 'commitment to quality' has greatly contributed to customers' perception of the brand and resulted in increasing sales.

As a result of Hyundai being an official partner of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the showroom will be offering a special promotion to customers purchasing a vehicle by offering the chance to win a four-day trip to South Africa.

Prices of the Sonata will range from BD7,990 to BD9,990 and the Tucson between BD6,790 to BD8,890. Both vehicles will be available in three graded options.
